Tess's Funeral

Held at the Phelan Cairn in Golden Gate Park for Aunt Tess. There is an open grave and a closed casket next to it.

Arrivals

  • 6:30pm: Uptown family arrives in separate cars. Michelle on motorcycle. Janice, Victor, and Cyn. Lynn, Nicolas, and Julie. Sean in his squad car. Gary and Kate.
  • 6:35pm: Jeff and Josh arrive and split up, Jeff heading to his niece Julia and Josh to Cyn after looking lost. Michelle gives Josh a brief smile.
  • 6:40pm: Ben and Vanessa arrive together. Vanessa gives Josh a brief hug while Ben gives Janice a look.
  • 6:45pm: Damien and Eric arrive together.
  • 6:50pm: Downtown family arrives in two limousines. Hugh, Junior, Kelly, and Jeremy. Jennifer, Martin, Jack, and Nora. Jack gives Damien a nod as he passes.
  • 6:55pm: Tate arrives alone, looking rushed and tired, gives a brief look to Sean and then joins Michelle.

Funeral

  • 7:00pm: Funeral begins. The nephews and nieces gather around the grave to speak.
    • Gary - "She was a tough old broad and always put the family first."
    • Janice - "She brought us through tough times and was always there. When our mother died, she took care of us like we were her own. She kept us together, kept us a family." Glare at Hugh.
    • Sean - "She deserved better than the lot of us." Glare at Hugh.
    • Lynn - "May she find her rest under the eyes of Mother Luna. She's earned it."
    • Michelle - "We had our differences, but I always respected her. Even if I didn't agree with her all the time, I knew the decisions she had to make weren't easy and I hoped that, one day, I could stand up and be strong enough to make the same sorts of decisions myself. She was what every leader should aspire to be. Strong, courageous, resourceful, and inspiring. She did Father Wolf proud."
    • Jack - Respectfully shakes off his chance.
    • Martin - "We will miss her wisdom and her wit. She would have made her father proud."
    • Kelly - Shakes off her chance, eyes downcast. Jennifer smirks. Michelle glares.
    • Jennifer - Shakes off her chance to speak with a drag of her cigarette.
  • 7:30pm: Hugh says, "We honor the passage of our most renowned member and regret that she had to die as the result of treachery rather than in battle against our foes. She deserved a better end. Only justice will allow her spirit to rest." Glares from the uptown family, Michelle restrains Janice.
  • 7:37pm: Twilight ends. Gary and Eric leave immediately. The other wolf-blooded trickle out while Sean and Gary refuse to leave.
    • Gary: "We're staying." Sean nods.
    • Hugh: "No, you're not. This is for full-blooded only. You know the rules."
    • Janice: "This is about Mike. They have a right to hear what's said."
    • Hugh: "They have what rights tradition grants them and this isn't among them." Looks to Martin and Junior. "If they won't leave, remove them."
    • Jeff: "Really, Hugh, is that necessary?"
    • Michelle: Quietly to Sean and Gary, "This could get ugly. We'll come straight to Doyle's when it is over, I promise."
    • Hugh: "Is that a threat?"
    • Jeff: "I don't think anyone can deny that blood is running hot, Hugh."
    • Martin: "I feel no threat was implied." Looks to Sean and Gary. "Hugh's right, though, you have to go. I'm sorry."
    • Gary looks at Sean, who nods slowly. The two depart.

  • 7:45pm: Hugh tries to throw out pack.
    • Hugh: "You need to leave as well." Indicates pack.
    • Jeff: "I invited them. Tempers are running hot, we could use a disinterested third-party handy in case people need to be pried apart."
    • Hugh: Growls. "We can take care of our own business."
    • Junior: "I agree with Jeff. If this does concern a Bale Hound, it isn't just a family problem."
    • Hugh: Glares. "Of course it is! We don't need outside help!"
    • Martin: "They are already involved. Having them handy to answer any questions that may come up about what they found will be helpful." Janice looks at pack suspiciously.
    • Michelle: "I agree."
    • Hugh: Angrily. "Fine! Let them stay." Addresses pack. "But this is family business. I won't stand for comments out of turn. You answer questions only when asked, understood?"
  • 8:00pm: Hugh leads the pack in the Funeral Rite. The casket is opened. Each Phelan bloodies Tess' body and the open grave.
  • 9:00pm: Father Phelan materializes at the end of the rite and says, "I accept the death of my daughter and deem her to have lived a worthy life, despite her disability. May she join with us and become part of the family eternal." To Hugh, "The family suffers from this death and its circumstances. Lead it through this strife and make it stronger. Our patron teaches that we must adapt to all change, good and bad, and take from it that which strengthens and discard that which weakens. We have survived such hardship before and will again." Each Phelan steps forward to receive the blessing of Father Phelan before he dematerializes.
  • 9:15pm: Reorganization discussion.
    • Hugh says, "I have decided to put Junior in charge of the so that Michelle can return to the Silver Kings to serve again as my beta." Junior and Martin seem unsurprised. Janice looks outraged, Lynn looks confused. Jeff narrows his eyes.
    • Michelle replies immediately, "No."
    • Hugh says, "You defy me?" Everyone tenses. Kelly looks ready to run.
    • Michelle says, "I do."
    • Hugh pulls an MP5 and says, "Fine."

Combat

Surprise Round

  • 24: Devlin's Child gets 9 successes to make Hugh shoot Michelle.
  • 15: Sean continues aiming.
  • 10: Phillip spends 1 Essence to use Darkened Moon on DeAndre, cutting him off from his auspice for 24 hours.
  • 10: Hugh draws his MP-5 and spends 1 Willpower to initiate violence in the cairn.

First Round

  • 24: Devlin's Child steps out of Hugh into Twilight.
  • 17: Martin reflexively shifts to Dalu and steps forward to grapple Hugh. "Hugh, no!"
  • 16: Lynn reflexively shifts to Urshul and jumps across the grave at Hugh, but he steps aside.
  • 15: Sean shoots Hugh, causing 6 Lethal. He resists Death Rage.
  • 15: Michelle spends 1 Essence to reflexively shift to Urshul and leaps at Hugh, spending 1 Willpower for Throat Tear, but misses.
  • 15: Jeff reflexively shifts to Dalu and activates Gauntlet Cloak for three turns, getting next to Hugh.
  • 14: Janice spends 1 Essence to reflexively shift to Urshul and jumps at Hugh, biting him for 3 Lethal. Two roll over to Aggravated and he falls unconscious under her.
  • 14: Silver King goes to find Sean.
  • 13: Father Phelan inflicts 2 Corpus on Golden Gate Park.
  • 13: Golden Gate Park is unable to injure Father Phelan.
  • 12: Junior spends 1 Essence to reflexively shift to Urshul and stand over his father, forcing the Tree-Speakers back. "Back! You win!"
  • 12: Josh spends 1 Essence to reflexively shift to Dalu, 1 Willpower to active Clarity (moving his init to 17), and moves to enter the melee to grapple.
  • 12: Kelly flounders and falls back.
  • 10: Phillip spends 1 Essence and 1 Willpower to use Broken Moon on Junior and sends him into Death Rage. Junior shifts to Gauru.
  • 10: Hugh spends 1 Essence to heal 1 Lethal and spends 1 Willpower to fire a large burst into Michelle (6 Lethal), Lynn (4 Lethal), and Janice (9 Lethal). Janice resists Death Rage. "Fucking bitches!"
  • 8: Cyn spends 1 Essence to reflexively shift to Gauru and gets in front of Janice and spends 1 Willpower to attack Junior for 2 Lethal. "No!"

Second Round

  • 24: Devlin's Child fetters to Lynn.
  • 17: Josh spends 1 Willpower and grapples Junior. "Breath, man! Get it under control!"
  • 17: Martin grapples Hugh. "Hugh, stop!"
  • 16: Lynn spends 1 Essence to heal 1 Lethal and nips at Junior for 2 Lethal.
  • 15: Sean shoots Junior for 4 Lethal.
  • 15: Michelle spends 1 Essence to heal 1 Lethal and nips at Junior for 1 Lethal.
  • 15: Jeff spends 1 Essence to use Luck-Eating on Junior, but fails.
  • 14: Janice spends 1 Essence to heal 1 Lethal and falls back, getting an exceptional success on Sense Malice and detects Devlin's Child in Lynn as well as Hugh's rage. "Wait! Lynn's urged!"
  • 14: Silver King uses Thieve to disarm Sean.
  • 13: Father Phelan spends 1 Willpower and inflicts 3 Corpus on Golden Gate Park.
  • 13: Golden Gate Park calls to its choir to send help, gafflings begin to drive off Father Phelan.
  • 12: Junior spends 1 Essence to heal 1 Lethal and makes an all-out attack on Josh, doing 3 Lethal.
  • 12: Kelly remains frozen.
  • 10: Phillip spends 1 Essence and 1 Willpower to use Broken Moon on Martin, sending him into Death Rage. Martin shifts to Gauru.
  • 10: Hugh spends 1 Essence to heal 1 Lethal and spends 1 Willpower to fire a long burst into Martin for 3 Lethal.
  • 8: Cyn spends 1 Willpower and bites Junior for 4 Lethal, knocking him out. He shifts back to Hishu and 4 roll over to Aggravated.

Ongoing

  • Devlin's Child makes Lynn try to finish off Junior.
  • Martin mauls Hugh for 6 Lethal, 4 of which roll around to Aggravated, knocking him unconscious.
  • Phillip spends 1 Essence to use Broken Moon on Cyn, sending her into Death Rage.
