Jeff is uncle to Victor, Nick, and Julie. Their father, Jeff's brother Victor, was killed in the Castro War. He has two children: Jessica (22), who is in college, and Benjamin, who is married to Josh's sister Vanessa and having an affair with Janice. His ex-wife, Alice, is not wolf-blooded and their relationship is very cool, but civil.

Description

Hishu

A haggard-looking man in his mid-40s with salt-and-pepper hair kept short and neat with matching mustache, blue eyes surrounded by crow's feet, and slightly tanned skin. He wears dark-colored turtlenecks to cover several scars on his throat (from Beshilu teeth), blue jeans, and good leather shoes. He wears a ring with a raven and several small diamonds on his left ring finger (The Rose Among Thorns fetish). Over his shoulder is a well-worn satchel.

Storytelling Hints

Jeff is dedicated to his pack, his territory, and his life as a werewolf, because he doesn't have a lot else in his life. He considers himself and his pack to be guardians of the Castro and the people within and takes this very seriously, investigating any transgression that might poison the spiritual landscape of his home. Despite this, he yearns for some of the benefits of a normal life and is deeply envious of the people he protects, their loves and their happiness. This unhappiness comes across as a certain coldness in his demeanor and a terseness in his manner. He is distant from his family, both his close family and the Phelans in general, though he is fonder of the Uptown pack than his former one. He has complete faith in his beta and they are good friends, but just that. He dislikes Penny, isn't overly fond of Maggie (though he's warming to her), and is very protective of Joshua, who he doesn't think should be here but is unable to deny him the chance to make sure his mother's death wasn't in vain.

Background

Jeffrey McShane was born to wolf-blooded family in a minor branch of the Phelan clan, the youngest of five. He and the eldest, Victor, both changed in 1980 and were accepted into the Downtown pack. He married, as directed by his elders, and his wife bore a child a year later, fulfilling his obligation. Secretly, he was gay and slipped away to the bathhouses of the Castro where he discovered a spiritual blight spreading throughout the neighborhood. At the risk of outing himself, he informed the pack and they, in turn, consulted with the packs nearest the neighborhood and discovered that the Caballeros de los Dolores were already aware of the problem through a defector from the Pure there. When the full extent of the problem was known, Jeff was part of the war pack like every other adult Uratha and fought valiantly in the Castro War. The death of his brother in the war and events in the city made him reevaluate his life and he came out to his wife. Shortly after, they were divorced with her pregnant with his second child, and he left to head the new pack based in the Castro. He has worked hard these last seventeen years, bitter at being cut off from his family and his children (who he sees very rarely) and doubtful that he made the right choice. He is one of the most accomplished ritemasters in the city and an expert on the Beshilu. His fetishes are used by Phelan family members throughout the city. He's had a number of relationships, but none last long and he's given up hope of finding love.

Recent Events

Jeff was surprised by Lee's challenge but not that he lost it. He has mixed feelings towards her takeover, much as he has mixed feelings towards her. On one hand, he's never really wanted to be alpha, preferring the role of ritemaster. On the other hand, this is his pack and his territory and he has a bit of bitterness that its been taken from him and he has to defer to somebody else.
