Background

Rave was born of the intersection of music and drugs, particularly in the club environment. It gained its first boost in power during the days of disco, when cocaine, poppers, and ludes were the drugs of choice but has come into its own with the rave scene, riding on the popularity of ecstasy, methamphetamines, and ketamine. It is a dedicated member of the Court of the Vine and defacto leader of the drug spirits in the Lower Haight and SOMA (the club scene). It has a long-standing rivalry with Junkie, who represents the more negative aspects of drug use and is leader of the drug spirits in the Tenderloin and Mission (the junkie scene).
