Ivory Claw Beta (Lodge of the Feast)

Edward is Eddie's father and first cousin to Walter and Oliver. He is a widower, his wife Flora having died in childbirth five years ago.

Description

Hishu

A tall, burly Caucasian man in his early 50s with shaggy reddish-brown hair to his shoulders, full beard, gray eyes, and tanned skin. He wears gray wool shirts and pants and a heavy leather coat. He sniffs the air like an animal and looks cagey in social interactions.

Urhan

A huge reddish-brown wolf with black tips to his ears and tail. In Anybeast, he appear as a sleek Doberman pincher.

Storytelling Hints

Edward is little more than a sophisticated animal, having given in almost entirely to his bestial nature. He only cares about the pack's territory, which he patrols incessantly, and his dogs. He sees his son as little more than another member of the pack and shows him no special affection. He defers completely to Gregory, his undisputed alpha, and dislikes Walter for his perceived weakness.

Abilities

  • Wolfpack
    • Worry: Counts as two opponents when figuring Defense penalties for multiple attackers.
    • Trip/Bowl-Over: Opposed Strength or Dexterity + Brawl rolls to knock the opponent down (giving +2 to other attackers).
    • Slow the Prey: Take a -2 to attack hamstrings and reduces Speed by one per point of damage.
    • Joint Attack: Spend one Willpower to allow all with this merit to reduce Defense + Armor by one per ally that attacks at the same time.
  • Savage Fury
    • Caged Fear: Gains +1 Defense versus grappling initiation and can swap Dexterity for Strength to escape.
    • Beast's Bluster: Spend one Willpower and roll Presence + Intimidation to strip a point of Willpower and force -2 (EX: -4) on attacks against him next turn.
    • Predatory Defense: Spend one Willpower and gain +3 Defense for the scene but at -2 to Death Rage rolls.
    • Baiting: Spend one Willpower and reflexively roll Strength + Subterfuge versus Wits + Empathy to gain +2 Defense on incoming attacks from foe. Gain +3 next turn if that foe attacked.
    • Furious Assault: Gain +6 on an all-out attack but roll immediately at -3 for Death Rage.
  • Tooth and Claw
    • Hunter's Eye: Observe enemy for one turn to lower Defense by one for the scene.
    • Slip Through: Attack for no damage to make foe lose Defense on next attack.
    • Pounce: If attack does more successes than foe's Size, they are knocked prone (+2 to attack), but you get -2 to Defense when you use it.
    • Fury: Lose Defense and attack with claw and bite at +1 in the same round.
    • Throat Tear: Spend one Willpower and reserve +2 on Bite to add as automatic successes.
  • Stoicism: Spend one Essence and roll Composure + Survival + Honor (10 dice) to ignore wound penalties for the scene (EX: day).
  • Relentless Focus: Roll Resolve + Empathy + Honor (8 dice) to regain one Willpower for every two successes once per day.
  • Father Wolf's Speed: Spend one Essence to double Speed for the scene.
  • Primal Howl: Spend one Essence and roll Presence + Expression + Purity (7 dice) versus Composure to invoke Lunacy is all targets for 60 yards. Only shapeshifters and spirits are immune.
  • Anybeast: Spend one Essence to take the form of another predator.
  • Silver Jaws: Spend one Essence to change his teeth to silver for the scene, giving +1 to Intimidation versus Uratha and allowing Aggravated damage.
  • Mask of Rage: Spend one Essence to invoke Lunacy for the scene.
  • Mighty Bound: Grants six dice to any jumping roll.
  • Iron-Rending: Spend one Essence and reflexively roll Strength + Crafts + Glory (8 dice) to ignore a number of points of Durability or Armor equal to successes for one turn per success.

Background

Edward was the first male of his generation to Change, doing so in close proximity to Gregory's daughter Alice. These circumstances created tension between alpha and beta until, three years later during Edward's wedding, his father challenged Gregory and was subsequently killed. This profoundly affected the man for years. He performed his duties and eventually replaced his father as beta of the pack in 1994, but he spent most of his time in the family kennel and patrolling on his own. He was more comfortable in Urhan than he was in Hishu and became a bit of an odd outcast in a strange and brutal family. Now, he is more animal than man, little more than a wolf in human form.
