Description

Hishu

A lanky Black woman in her late 50s with gray dreadlocks reaching down to the backs of her knees and intense, dark eyes. She wears bell-bottom jeans, a fringed leather jacket over a tie-die shirt, and a beaded headband. When the weather is poor, she wears a poncho and a cowboy hat with a beaded band. She is always carrying her saxophone on a strap and has a coronet strapped to her rucksack that supposedly belonged to her father. She makes an effort to shower regularly and get her clothes cleaned, but is still a street denizen.

Urhan

A lanky, graying dark brown wolf with a white spot at the tip of its nose. With Anybeast, she appears as a graying doberman.

Storytelling Hints

On one hand, Kathy is a friendly hippie who loves to perform for people and hear their stories, protective of the other homeless in her neighborhood, and generally laid back. On the other, she is a hardened idealist who brooks no disagreement to her hardline philosophy which rejects spirit slavery and dominance. She has little tolerance for immorality or excuses for such. Though she doesn't seem violent, she is capable of it easily when her territory or ideals are threatened. She could easily be beta but has no desire to be. She has great respect for Okasan, is wary of Dave as both a former soldier and a cop, and is very fond of Takami.

Background

Kathy Young was born in 1950, during the redevelopment of the Fillmore District. Her mother told her that her father was Louis Armstrong and she grew up with a love for jazz. However, the two of them ended up on the street when they were forced from their home when she was five. She was left on her own at the age of nine when her mother died, but managed to get by because of a talent for music but went through hard times until her First Change in 1967. She wasn't aware what had happened to her and nobody was available to explain it to her until a visitor to the city noticed her on the street. He was a hippie but also an Uratha. He taught her who she was, what it meant, and inducted her into his tribe and, eventually, lodge. She spent five years with him both in the city and traveling to communes in the Bay Area before he went his way and she returned to her home. Revitalized, with new purpose, she began to try and establish a territory in the Fillmore on her own and ran into Okasan. The two collaborated, found they had similar views, and agreed with the approach of each other's Lodges. They worked together in the neighborhood informally until the 1980s when Okasan's husband died and Dave showed up and the three decided to become a pack. She stays on the street, mostly because of her dedication to Uprooted, who has been watching over her since well before her First Change.

Renown

• Purity 4: Spent a year in the wilderness living without the use of spirit gifts, attaining Harmony 10, to prove her dedication.
• Purity 5: Was hunted, attacked, caught, and tortured by the McLellans in the early 80s but never entered Death Rage, never fought to kill, and mutilated herself to prevent a rape that might result in a Ghost Child. (She was eventually saved by Okasan.)
