Background

The Uprooted is the spirit of being forced from one’s home by bigotry, specific to a neighborhood where two groups (the Japanese and African-Americans) have been uprooted by the government because of their race. It also has drawn power from people who have settled in this city after being driven from their homes because of race, nationality, or sexuality. It teaches its children to be sensitive to the enmity of others and how to come together in spite of it.
