Background

Originally the spirit of Sydney-Town, the neighborhood at the foot of Telegraph Hill where Australian immigrants settled, it grew with the area to embody the hub of prostitution, gambling, and crime in the city. It was a contender for city spirit but was destroyed by the Great Fire and supplanted by San Francisco, which represented the city's ability to rebuild after destruction. It remains as a representation of the darker elements of the city in opposition to its rival and spirits such as Haight-Ashbury. It is supportive of Liberal Anxiety's efforts, the two spirits acting as the main power block in opposition to Haight-Ashbury's. It lurks in its old haunts in Chinatown, North Beach, and the Financial District, but has a strong presence in the Tenderloin and certain crime-ridden parts of SOMA.
