Duguthim

John is a Father of the Church of the Lighthouse. He was claimed by a Flame Child on April 6, 2007.

Description

A lean Chinese man in his late 30s with short black hair and brown eyes. When out of uniform, he wears plain white shirts, khaki slacks, and white sneakers. He no longer wears his wedding ring but always carries his gun in a shoulder holster under a navy blue SFPD windbreaker. He has taken to wearing a bulletproof vest at all times under his clothes since the murder of the two elders.

Storytelling Hints

John is a man of strong conviction who truly believes in the message of the Church. Now, with a fire spirit burning into his mind, his temper and conviction are all the more intense. He cannot be argued with and is likely to attack without provocation.

Background

John Li was a decent cop who grew desperate when his young wife was diagnosed with breast cancer and proved resistant to conventional treatment. They pursued other options that eventually led to the Universal Faith Free Clinic, where she saw remarkable recovery, astonishing her doctors. The two of them were drawn into the cult, though his wife was more resistant than he was. In the end, she was repelled by the tenets of the church and her cancer grew quickly worse and she died. By this time, however, John knew that it was her lack of faith which killed her and, though he grieved, knew there was nothing to be done. He served the church well, helping to quiet complaints and pull strings with his friends to keep interference to a minimum. When the Plague Prophets were killed, he was enraged, but even more so at the deaths of Elders Faith and Rebecca, so callously executed by the PCs. He went with Elder Adam to the Keepers of the First Flame for assistance. There, he was taken forcibly, tortured, and claimed by a Flame Child. Now, he feels the fire of his faith burn within him, feeding his rage, and he lives only to destroy those who have hurt his prophets.
