Sam was never a popular or well-liked kid but never really cared. He had a passion from a young age for science, particularly physics. Most applications of the field, however, didn't interest him and he didn't want to teach. Just after graduating from college, he stumbled on reference to forensics and quickly became fascinated. He liked the idea of applying himself to problems that would have immediate, visible effects. It was his concentration in graduate school, where he wrote a well-received paper on ballistics and blood splatter. Newly married, he took a position with the SFPD's forensic division and has been with them ever since. He and his wife (a schoolteacher) live in Sunset and have five children, the youngest two of which are now in college. Apart from work, his wife and he are very active in their community and he lectures across the country on his specialty. He is well acquainted with the cops and lawyers attached to the homicide units. | Sam was never a popular or well-liked kid but never really cared.
