Ex-UFC Fighter

A player character.

Description

A 6'6" worn granite statute of a muscular man, neo-classical style. Were he a bit less chipped, or were he marble, he might qualify for the Striking Looks merit, but his weather-beaten state suggests more pragmatic brawn than idealized masculine grandeur. His left leg has been shattered and pieced back together as if by an attentive curator. The pieces move independently of one another and make an uncomfortable grinding noise when he walks.

Mask

His mask is a tall, muscular man whose nose has been broken and healed slightly askew. His eyes are dark brown, as is his hair, which he wears in a crew-cut. He walks with a pronounced limp.

Background

Mortal Life

Carl was born in 1979 the third son of a moderately well-to-do Los Angeles carpet importer. He attended UCLA on a football scholarship but failed to be drafted into the majors and graduated with a BA in communication. He was an academically middling student and affable frat-rat who put a premium on in-group loyalty. In his off hours he engaged in rock-climbing and mixed-martial arts.

After graduation, he attempted to parlay the latter avocation into a career, moving to Vegas and competing in a second-tier league under the name "the Iron Man" while attempting to secure a position with the UFC. (A cease and desist order from Marvel Entertainment Group, Inc., was delivered to his address shortly after his abduction by the fey.) His record was 5-1-0, and he is best remembered for a series of promotional internet videos wherein he and his posse would pull up in an SUV and he would beat the living hell out of challengers solicited through his (now defunct) website.

Durance

The older and cannier professional gamblers who make their living on the fringes of Vegas are well aware that the Devil hates card cheats like little else. If you invoke him before a full length mirror in a room lit only by a black candle, and give him the name of a man who's cheated at a wager, he'll be sure to take the malefactor away. The devil looks like a well dressed black man, but you can recognize him by his shadow. But if you lie to him, or even if you've made an honest mistake, he'll steal you off to Hell instead. It's widely believed that the head of security at the Rio routinely invokes this ritual, and a good many card cheats are unwilling to test the theory.

In 2004, Carl, in deep gambling debt, agreed to throw a fight. A disgruntled better called Mr. Fortune to take him away. Fortune crafted him into a guard and eventually lost him in a dice game at a Goblin Market-like casino, to a creature who claimed to be the god Dionysis.

He is unclear on when, during his durance, his leg was destroyed, though he has vague memories of being shattered by a hoard of drunken biker-women and other recollections of fighting Chinese snake-demons.

He knows that his function in Fairy was to punish those who broke the rules, and that he clung to that wisp of reliability to maintain his sanity.

Changeling Life

To be determined.
