The Protectorate was formed in the 1960s, after immigration restrictions were lifted and Chinese began to flood into the city again. The existing Chinatown pack made alliances and arranged marriages with the new arrivals, leading to a network of Chinese packs throughout the Bay. Currently, the Protectorate consists of five packs, three in San Francisco (Chinatown, Sunset, and Inner Richmond), one in Oakland, and one in the Silicon Valley. Each of these has blood ties to the original Taishanese pack and Grandfather Jiang is considered alpha of the Protectorate as a whole.
