The Rainbow Guard formed in the 80s in response to the threat posed by AIDS and the Beshilu, disease-spirits, and Fire-Touched encouraging its spread. While the heaviest fighting of this battle is done, there is still a lot of spiritual fallout to deal with and so the pack opted to become permanent, taking the predominantly gay neighborhoods around Castro Street as their territory. Since then, they have concentrated their efforts mostly on containment of spirits such as The Gay Plague and Intolerance, continued pursuit of Beshilu nests, and a press to expand their territory east into SOMA, currently controlled by their old enemies the Servants of the Great Fire. They have also faced an unexpected threat, as The Setting Sun seems to have a specific dislike for them and has taken to raiding their territory from the west.
