Walter was born in the Mission (1866) and made his way as a burgler, mugger, and laborer (when he couldn’t avoid it) right up until the earthquake (1906), when he was making out like a bandit until a figure came on him in the night and struck him down for his sins. He was informed of the facts of his new state and what it meant and then questioned extensively about the city and its history. By the time it was done, he was blood bound to Martin believed every word the elder spoke. For the next three decades, he served his master, helping him adjust to the new century and performing whatever tasks he was asked. His old life was forgotten and his new existence was entirely in the service of his regnant. Through his efforts, the Monastery was build and fortified, the records concerning it lost, and those who asked questions killed. When he was bid kidnap the newly embraced Collin, he did so without question (1935). Afterwards, he was officially recognized throughout the city as Inquisitor. Ever since, he has taken his duties very seriously, prowling the night for hints of Tradition violations, reporting back all that he hears to his liege.

Walter has become increasingly unstable as the stresses of living night to night as a monster wear on his sanity and the fervor instilled in him by his mentor proves insufficient as he operates for longer periods outside of his immediate presence.

Inquisitor Walter Turnbull

Storytelling Hints

Walter once was the consumate blue-collar criminal. He was driven by an unwavering assumption that everything in his life would work itself out and a desire for wealth and comfort with little effort on his part. Now, he is driven by the beliefs of his sect and the need for the approval and praise of his sire. He has the sort of desperate intensity that belies fanaticism born out of a deep-seated need to believe.
