Jason Barnes commits suicide using his service pistol on the evening of Dec 25th in his car, parked in Golden Gate Park, his body is found the next morning.
Jason's funeral is Dec 29th, he is in attendance.
The Barnes family moves back into the ancestral home with grandfather Daniel on Jan 1st, Aunt Michelle comes to stay with them again.
Daniel's health almost immediately begins to fail due to attacks by Jason, but he hides the cause from the rest of the family.
Kyle Hendricks, a senior at Maddy's school who she flirted with, disappears on the night of Friday, Jan 6th. The last girl to have seen him (another senior, Lisa Hernandez) claims he tried to rape her at the party they were at but a man (with Jason's description) intervened and dragged him out of the car they were in and off, into the night. The school has kept the incident quiet while the police make inquiries.
Melissa's supervisor, who is trying to have her fired because of all the time off she's taken, is threatened in the parking garage of CPMC on Jan 10th by Jason. He doesn't talk to the police, but abruptly stops hassling Melissa.
