The Alder Baron Julian Coleman, Mekhet Priscus, Senator, and Advisor

Description

A handsome Caucasian man in his early 20s with neat short brown hair and moustache, brown eyes, and pale complexion. He wears a medium gray suit with a gold embroidered vest and silk tie, gold pocket watch with fob, and expensive leather shoes. His fingertips are stained black from ink and chemicals and he smells faintly of lilacs from a scent he wears to cover up the unpleasant smells he acquires in his work, a habit from his medical days. He has a cultured British accent.

Storytelling Hints

Julian is disarmingly mature given his youthful appearance and lacks the intensity that many focused individuals have. He presents himself as gracious, charming, and unfailingly polite. He never talks about his work except in the company of other covenant members. Among them, he is a tirelessly dedicated student of the occult, medicine, and science (albeit more alchemy than chemistry or biology). His perfectionism is trying on those attempting to work with him on his studies. His work is based on greed rather than lust for knowledge. He wants secrets for himself and is reticent to give them up.

Background

Born to a well-off London family (1779), Julian’s interest at an early age was medicine and he pursued his chosen profession with single-minded intensity. His drive was noticed by one who frequented St. Bart’s for sustenance and decided to intervene when the young man, in his zeal, contracted terminal tuberculosis (1801). He proved extremely receptive to his sire's arguments about life being a state to overcome, the first step to perfection. He served his new master for many years, learning all he could from the extensive libraries of the Kindred and becoming fascinated by the nature of his own existence. Shortly after his manumission (1822), he was administered a series of tests by the Ordo Dracul and, once judged worthy, was offered admission. His interests expanded to the occult as the century wore on but he disdained the spiritual, being more interested with alchemy and other forms of physical or scientific occultism. With the turn of the century he felt that the local community was losing its focus and decided to relocate in order to get fresh perspective (1915). He chose San Francisco because of its proximity to the new American Rosicrucian Order and the culture and wealth which reminded him of home more than San Jose. He was able to continue in the function he pursued in London and was chosen to become an adviser to the Prince during the Conference of 1935. He was granted his title of tribute after his research led to the destruction of the Calun pack, which had been killing vampires for decades. He continues his studies without much interest in political games, always on the look out for promising new students. While his research is impressive, his reticent to share has meant that he isn't as highly esteemed in the Order as he could be.

Recent Events

The Baron has had poor luck with his choice of childer. His first, Collin, turned out to have more interest in the minutiae of Invictus society than the occult, while his second, Judith, proved to have incredibly poor judgement in her love life, embracing a self-described Satanist without permission in the mid-80s. The childe ended up with the Lancea Sanctum and the sting of this event still hasn’t quite left him. He is cold and slightly cruel towards his younger childe, as a result, showing no sign of releasing her from her duties. While her mastery of blood magic is impressive, he is frustrated with her inability to teach it to him and is firmly of the feeling that her embrace was a mistake. He wouldn't lose sleep over her destruction and would gladly give her up to the Reeve if it would settle the whole affair.
