The Honorable Alder James Fang, Earl of Chinatown, Ventrue Priscus and Prince of San Francisco

Storytelling Hints

The Earl is an unassuming but highly intelligent individual, somewhat more suited to a position as important servant than as a leader, but his years and knowledge have allowed him to manage thus far, though he’s unlikely, as a vampire, to truly grow beyond his limits. His suspicion, in particularly, may easily become a serious impediment should anything go wrong. James is considerate almost to a fault, a perfect host and gracious lord, though his mild paranoia has bred a ruthlessness beneath this that most cannot detect. He is very happy where he is and will not allow anyone to endanger his position.

Background

James Fang was born in Taishan province (1767) where he was a masterfully skilled servant of a powerful Ventrue who eventually rewarded him with the embrace for his efforts (1798). The year he received manumission (1848) coincided with the California Gold Rush and he arranged to travel to San Francisco. On arrival, he fought with the other Kindred who had come to claim the new city until eventually he decided to accede his own claim in order to ally with Charles Pullus, an older vampire with more resources, and together they claimed the city (1870). In return for his assistance in securing control over Chinatown, he received his title of tribute and the position of Seneschal. Secure in his political position, he spent the rest of the century consolidating his business interests, becoming heavily invested in the Chinese Six Companies when it formed (1882). His support convinced Charles Pullus to offer him a dynastic compact at the turn of the century and they have managed their interests as one ever since. With the turn of the new century, James has taken over as Prince (2000) and turned over the position of Seneschal to his own protégé, Edward Lee.

Recent Events

James has been harboring an increasing dislike for his grandchilde, Jennifer. The pressures of his new position have been projected onto a lack of support from Edward and he blames the distraction his attractive new protégé presents. He has been quietly using his contacts to keep an eye on her, waiting for any sign of mistake or impropriety.
