Island
The western side of the island is dominated by a mountain range that curves to the east at both ends. This is the location of the cloud forest and the fertile river valleys where the Mountain People civilization has arisen. At lower elevations is the vast rain forest that was the original home of the Forest and River People (on opposite sides of the river). The three rivers descending from the mountains merge into the Great River within and it is reasonably navigable from here to the sea unlike its tributaries, which are rife with cataracts and waterfalls. Beyond the rain forest are savannah and grasslands while the river spreads out into a vast delta on the southern end of the large lagoon. As the River People civilization has developed, they've moved out of the forest onto the plains.
Climate
Lowland temperature varies between 68 and 86 degrees but it is much colder higher up. The island is uniformly wet. In the south, the rainy season lasts from October to May and in the north from April to November.
