Sanctum: Chinese United Methodist Church

The Chosen are the oldest cabal in the city, having been formed by Chinese immigrants who came to take part in the Gold Rush or work on the Transcontinental Railroad. It has always had extensive ties to Chinatown and similar ethnic communities in Oakland and San Jose, but its members usually keep to themselves. Nonetheless, they have dominated Consilia for the last century and have managed to earn the enmity of the Children of Olorun by seizing their hallow on Washington Street. After the 1906 earthquake, Japanese members split off to form the Priests of Amaterasu, claiming poor treatment at the hands of the Chinese leaders of the cabal.

The two core legacies of the cabal are the Uncrowned Kings, who practice Taoist alchemy to achieve spiritual balance, and the Stone Scribes, who honor the dead and communicate with them by keeping detailed records of their lives and deeds.

Protocols

We are those who walk half in death and half in life. We are the emissaries of the honored ancestors. We are the link between the past and the present and the days to come. We are the thread which binds history, which records the names of the dead and guides the living to greater purity. We are the Chosen of Ti-Tsang.

Let none who is Chosen neglect their duties to family and kin.

Let none who is Chosen forget their heritage and the history of their people.

Let none who is Chosen stray too close to the living or the dead.

Let none who is Chosen fail to honor their master or their apprentice.

Let none who is Chosen ignore the Barbary Compact and its Protocols.

Let none who is Chosen betray their sacred trust, lest they be cast into hell.
