Bounty Hunter

Blind Matt is technically freelance, but spends most of his time tracking down people for Saul Scales and the Sun Court leadership. When there are crimes that effect the whole freehold, he worlds with John Noir to investigate and the two have a good working relationship and professional respect for each other. He works out of his office in Sin City.

Description

A large man covered in white hair with pale blue eyes, small tusks, large hands and feet. He wears a denim jacket with Blind Justice Bond Enforcement on the back in biker style, jeans, a dress shirt and tie, and heavy boots. He generally wears sunglasses and leads with his nose when he moves, often sniffing. There is an aura of sunlight that surrounds him, making him look like he's standing in front of the sun. He smells faintly of wet dog.

Background

Mortal Life

Paul Matthew Baynard was a Las Vegas native working as a bounty hunter in the seventies when he went up into the mountains to check on a cabin where an FTA was supposedly hiding out in 1973. He was caught instead by a freak snowstorm that left him with a disabled vehicle and no shelter in sight. Trying to find his way to the cabin on foot, he stumbled out into the blinding snow and into the Hedge.

Durance

Endless snow-covered mountains and blinding sunlight are the last thing he remembers seeing before his sight was taken from him. He never remembers a Keeper, though he recalls the mountains and the winds whispering at times (though he isn't sure that was real). He just tried to survive, using his other senses, learning to smell colors and hear shapes. He hunted, tearing animals apart with his bare hands in his desperate hunger, and fought things he couldn't see but that sounded like people (or, at least, people-shaped things). He nearly forgot who he was completely by the time he smelled home and followed his nose. He came to Sin City in 1978 and was found by the Sun Court.

Changeling Life

Matt was a natural fit for Leo's court, having no interest in joining the criminals and drug-addicts he'd dragged to their court hearings. Once he'd gotten his bearings, he went looking for his fetch. He found that it was still doing his old job but had fallen in love and married a wonderful woman named Susan. They met and talked for a long while, then did it again the next day. After a week, there was only one Matt Baynard left and he went to his wife and explained everything that had happened. It was difficult, at first, and she had a hard time seeing him as he was now, but they fell in love all over again when she got pregnant. He's settled back into his life and fulfills his duties to his court and is genuinely happy. His daughter, Katie, is now grown and practicing as a doctor at the University Medical Center. She has a sense for things Faerie and is the backup to Back-Alley Sam. Matt's never joined a motley, preferring the grounding of his mortal family.
