Fortress of the Summer Queen

Description

A squat three story tower sheathed in cold iron surrounded by a swath of burned ground and a border of charred thorny bushes. The single piece of ornamentation is the device of the Queen hung over the door, a withered orchid against a red background with a black border. The interior is spare with the first level being the Summer Court, the second level the privy council meeting chamber, and the third the rooms of the Orchid Queen herself. There are also several chambers underground which hold weapons, armor, and stores for lasting out a siege, as well as a cistern and a secret passage (see below).

Doors

The primary entrance from the real world is a garage door at Tinker's workshop which opens onto a large archway formed by two trees on the far side of the clearing from the main hedge entrance. In addition, there are two smaller entrances within the structure. A secret passage in the basement leads to the back door of a small theater and a full-length mirror in the Queen's bedchamber leads to an identical one in the bedroom of her apartment.

History

The construction of the Iron Tower was forbidden by the previous monarch of Summer, but the Orchid Queen went ahead with it anyway, in secret. When she was discovered, close to its completion, the Summer King imprisoned her and the Tinker. This resulted in a coup, as her supporters in the Summer Court demanded her release. No blood was shed, but it forced the reigning King out of power and the Orchid Queen was put in his place. It is a symbol of defiance and some say a direct affront to the True Fae to draw their attention so that the Queen can have the straight up battle she is spoiling for.
