Locus

The plaque in the sidewalk is in front of the former location of "Castro Camera", the home and business where Harvey Milk, unofficial "Mayor of Castro Street" ran his political campaign until he was assassinated along with Mayor Moscone by Dan White. It was the focus of the grief felt by the residents of the neighborhood after his death and has grown rich with the sorrow brought on by the AIDS epidemic and other hardships of the gay community. It is claimed by Castro itself.
