Description

A vibrant Hispanic woman in her mid 20s with long black hair in several braids with reach to her ass, dark eyes, and a medium skin tone. She never uses makeup or perfume and dresses in jeans, tight black t-shirts that show off her breasts nicely, boots, and a leather belt with a silver and turquiose buckle. A jaguar tooth is on a leather thong around her neck and she keeps a flint knife in the leather satchel with her books. She smells of herbal shampoo, mild soap, and the sandlewood incense she uses when she meditates.

Maria is charged with the new knowledge she’s been given that has validated her hodge-podge pagan beliefs, but at the core she is still uncertain of herself, though she has faith she will figure everything out. She is a highly sensual person, even more so now, and has a tendency to become distracted by the sense experiences she encounters on her spiritual journeys.

Background

Maria was the younger child of a Mexican mother and a German father in the Mission. She had no strong religious upbringing but found paganism alluring in high school and persued it more seriously while in college, where she majored in anthropology with a concentration in myths and legends. Her dream was to become an archaeologist and explore Central and South America. During her junior year, however, she experienced her Awakening as fevered dreams that confused doctors reported seemed like malaria. While she was hospitalized, she made her way through the Primal Wild to the stone tower with the aid of her spirit guide, a jaguar, and etched her name on its walls in her blood. When she awoke, it was with a new awareness but her old purpose. She returned to school and finished her degree while serving as apprentice under a harsh Orphan of Proteus who finally bid her go and experience the world and return when she had achieved the enlightenment necessary for the next step in her training. She came back to San Francisco and found her way to the Pink Elephant, where she has a convenient portal for her spirit quests. She is still highly inexperienced and knows next to nothing about the mage community in the city. The Consilium is aware of her and has made contact once just to size her up, but she is only vaguely aware of who they are (an occult ruling council). She was also told to keep her magic unobtrusive or she would be visited by the Sandmen, whom she mistakenly thinks of as occult secret police working for the Consilium. She still holds onto her ambition to return to school and become an archaeologist and return to her mentor, but feels she needs this time to find herself first.
