Notable Thoroughfares

  • Portage Road: runs from Miller's Gate to Falls Gate (20' wide)
  • Baker Street: runs along the western shore of the island from Mill Court to Castle Square (10' wide)
  • Castle Street: runs from Castle Square to Market Square (10' wide)
  • Mason Street: runs through the center of town from north to south (10' wide), most of the dwarves in the city live here and on Smith Street
  • Fuller Street: runs along the western short of the island from Mill Court to Laundry Bend (10' wide)
  • Giant's Causeway: runs down the cliff face from Falls Gate Bridge down to The Shelf (20' wide)

All the other streets are only 5' wide.

Locations

Bloody Row

The stretch of Portage Road starting at Miller's Gate Bridge and extending a way's north is nicknamed "Bloody Row" because this is where the members of the Fleshers' Guild have their workshops on the river side of the road. The other side of the road is dominated by stockades and pens for the animals which are their trade.

  • Fleshers' Guild - butchers, leather-workers, skinners, and tanners gather in this large wooden hall
  • The Bloody Knife - tavern, home of the town's thieves' guild, dark, shadowy, suspicious

Castle Court

  • The Lord's Head - tavern, guards

Fountain Square

Built at the crossroads of Mason Street, Wicker Street, and Smith Street, this square is the center of the dwarven community which once was a small enclave along lower Mason Street but has been fed by refugees from the Goblin War until it was one of the most prominent neighborhoods in the town. The eponymous fountain shows the dwarven king surrounded by his honor guard, beset by goblins and is the local neighborhood's source of water and the square is home to the local market.

Market Square

The Rafts

Built off the 20' wide stone shelf at the base of the causeway is the neighborhood referred to by the locals as "The Rafts", a combination of docks and permanent and temporary structures built on wooden rafts. The residents are almost entirely lightfoot halflings.

Market District

Northeast corner of town, centered around the market square at the junction of Portage Road, Mason Street, and Mill Street. Most buildings here are wood, with important ones made of brick or stone. The population is mostly human but very mixed. (10 acres, 600 pop)

Southeast corner of town around Bridge Gate and the castle gate. The buildings here are mostly wood with important ones made of brick. The population is predominantly human. (8 acres, 480 pop)

  • Castle Court (40' square, in front of castle gatehouse, local market)
    • The Gatehouse - tavern, merchants (second oldest)

Northwest corner of town, main artery is Mill Street leading from the market to Miller's Gate. Buildings are generally wattle-and-daub. The population is mostly stout halflings. (8 acres, 480 pop)
