Calendar

This is the halfling calendar that was in place when humans first came to the valley. It was adopted by the human farmers and stuck. Months are 4 weeks, 28 days long. Seasons start on the equinox/solstice. New moon is the first day of the month, full moon is the 15th, half moons on the 8th and 22nd.

  • Spring
    • Sugar Moon (March) - maple sugar, calving
    • Seed Moon (April) - spring crop planting, farrowing
    • Milk Moon (May) - cows back into full milk
  • Summer
    • Honey Moon (June) - bees making honey, shearing
    • Hay Moon (July) - gathering hay, harvest flax and hemp
    • Harvest Moon (August) - harvesting grains
  • Autumn
    • Apple Moon (September) - apple harvest, breed cows
    • Hunter Moon (October) - hunting birds, pannage, breed sheep
    • Wood Moon (November) - gather wood
  • Winter
    • Blood Moon (December) - slaughtering
    • Wassail Moon (January) - wassailing, breed sows
    • Lamb Moon (February) - lambing, prune fruit trees

Threats

  • Frost Giants: Viking-style raiders from the fjord, come in winter
  • Hobgoblins and Goblins: The mountains and valleys to the south are goblin infested, they were responsible for the fall of the dwarven kingdom
  • Trolls: The moor to the east
  • Bugbears: Forests to the north
  • Orcs: Random bands raiding by land during the night
  • Undead: The old dwarven city is riddled with undead
  • Ogres and Hill Giants: Throughout the hills, often work for the goblins
  • Griffins: A pride of griffins lives in a specific set of hills
  • Kobolds: Under the mountains of the north and the elf wood
  • Werewolf: Edge of elf wood
  • Stone Giants: Tribe in the mountains to the north, enemies of the frost giants
