Iron Master Cahalith Alpha (Lodge of the Endless Moon, Lodge of Scrolls)

John is Yin's brother-in-law and Susie's uncle.

Description

Hishu

A tall, well-built Chinese man in his early-50s with wire-rimmed glasses, short dark hair, and blue eyes (from a British grandfather). He wears a tweed jacket, starched white shirts, grey slacks, and leather shoes. He wears a small amulet of a dragon holding a jade sphere (Fortune Stone). John radiates authority and is firm, issuing commands instead of requests, in a manner many might find grating. He speaks with a crisp, almost British accent.

Urhan

A lean grey and black brindle wolf with blue eyes.

Storytelling Hints

John is utterly dedicated to his lodge, even more so than his tribe or the protectorate, though he takes him from his duties to see to his territory. He takes a very hands-on approach, making ties with the local businesses and police. He is very involved in the community and well known to residents of New Chinatown. His personal life is spare. He is in love with his sister-in-law, but has never acted on it, and is aware she reciprocates. He is very fond of his niece, who he treats like a daughter, and is good friends with his ritemaster Eric. The pack is generally tight with a firm sense of purpose.

Background

John was born in Hong Kong to an established wolf-blooded family with a long history with the Lodge of Scrolls. He was the eldest son and groomed to take over his father's role as keeper of the archives. Nobody was surprised when he changed, his grandmother claiming to have seen it in a dream the night before he was born. His father had a strong belief in the integrity of the city, having lived through the Japanese occupation and periods of unrest since, but John wasn't so confident. A bomb damaged part of the library during the riots of 1967 and began a long argument between the two men. It wasn't resolved until 1981, when the elder Chan died and his son took over as alpha of the pack. He spent the next two years carefully arranging the transfer, sending over a member of the pack to receive the items and sending them in numerous small shipments, to avoid the loss of a bulk should problems occur. Over the course of the move, the rest of the pack and several wolf-blooded relations joined it and contacted the Golden Mountain Protectorate for assistance in establishing their territory. With the computer boom, John has been modernizing the collection, scanning old volumes and transcribing them onto digital media. They have done well with pruning their territory despite their non-martial focus, though they have not yet had a run in with the local Pure.
