Character Creation

Your character will be forms of three types of Aspects: Mind, Identity, and Vessel.

  • All characters have one Mind aspect. This is the core of the character.

Templates

First, pick a template to represent your character:

  • Human: You are some variation of the human race. You were born and grew up. Your genes may have been [[Human Genetic Engineering|selected or modified], but your legacy is humanity.
  • Bioroid: You are a biological machine. You were constructed at someone's behest and that person was your legal guardian when you woke.
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI): You are a digital entity. You exist as software which inhabits whatever shell the computer you are currently running on controls.
  • Ghost: You were born or constructed as a biological entity but had your mind uploaded into a computer and now have an existence similar to an artificial intelligence.

Mind

Note the type of your mind based on your template: Organic for Humans and Bioroids, Digital for AIs and Ghosts.

Vessels

Note the type of the vessel (Body, Cybershell, or Bioshell).

  • Human: You have the body you were born with. Choose the type from the Human, Human Upgrade, and Parahuman types under Vessels. Any additional Vessels you have can be Bioroids or Cybershells operated by teleoperation.
  • Bioroid: You have the body you were originally constructed with. Choose the type from the Bioroid types under Vessels. Any additional Vessels you have can be Bioroids or Cybershells operated by teleoperation.
  • AI: You can have any number of cybershells or bioshells chosen from the types under Vessels.
  • Ghost: You can have any number of cybershells or bioshells chosen from the types under Vessels, which may include a necromorph bioshell of its original body.

Each vessel's first trait is its type or model.

  • Biological vessels may have additional traits indicating Brain Implants, Biomods, Nanosymbionts.
  • Mechanical vessels may have additional traits indicating additional or non-standard components from the base model.


Starting characters get twelve traits to start, spread between their Mind and any number of Identities and Vessels. You must have at least one Identity and Vessel and they need to have at least one trait each. In addition, they should choose two complications, each attached to their Mind or one of their Identities or Vessels.

Mind

What you know, who you are.

  • Specify type: Digital or Organic.
  • Choose traits representing your mental capabilities (experience, knowledge, talent).
  • Sample Complications (Digital): Shadow, Fragment, Low-Sapient, Law-Abiding.
  • Sample Complications (Organic): Any sort of mental illness or disability. Slave Mentality (for bioroids).

Identity

Who you are thought to be, who you know, what you own.

  • Specify the identity's name.
  • Choose traits representing the identity's social resources (contacts, property, status, authority). All identities must have at least one trait (to exist, someone has to know them or they have to exist on some piece of paperwork). A common first trait is citizenship or ownership.
  • Sample Complications (Infomorph): Rogue, Xox, Emergent.
  • Sample Complications (Bioroid): Property.

Vessel

What you inhabit and what it can do. Organics have their body. Digitals get cybershells and bioshells. Organics can also have cybershells and bioshells that they tele-operate.

  • Specify type: Body, Cybershell, or Bioshell.
  • All vessels must have at least one trait, describing what they are (Genefixed human, Tennin parahuman, Incubus bioroid, Clockwork Souls Gynoid, etc).
  • Choose traits representing the vessel's physical capabilities (Brain Implants, Biomods, Nanosymbionts).
  • Sample Complications (Human): Floater, any sort of physical disability (rare in Fourth and Fifth Wave nations).
  • Sample Complications (Bioroid): Off-the-Rack Looks.
  • Sample Complications (Cybershell): Any sort of bug, quirk, or design limitation.
