Chinatown looks older than it appears in the material world. The buildings here are the spiritual remains of those destroyed in the Great Earthquake and Fire of 1906 and house a vast variety of spirits out of proportion with the size of the actual district, which seems larger here and more exotic, possessing of winding back alleys that don't exist on the flesh side. Spirits take cultural and historical forms here, from violence spirits in the form of tong members to spirits of lust lurking in back alleys where the spiritual reflections of long-destroyed opium dens still stand. The spirit of the neighborhood rules over all, keeping its own order and demanding tribute from its subjects.
