Background

Mortal Life

Barry was a middle-aged garbage collector, divorced with two teenage daughters he rarely saw, who spent the majority of his time drinking with his friends and co-workers at one bar or another. He came from a working-class family and never applied himself to bettering himself. His youth was spent hanging out with his friends in their usual haunts in the same neighborhood they'd all grown up in. He married the sister of a friend who grew frustrated with him spending night after night drinking his life away rather than spending it with his family or doing something worthwhile. For his part, Barry just never saw the point. He liked drinking and watching sports and hanging out with his buddies. He barely noticed the end of his marriage.

Durance

One night, Barry got very drunk and woke up in Arcadia. His Keeper forced him to assist in the creation of the potent brews for which he was renowned, claiming to have won the right in a drinking game. He has vague memories of years of hard labor and abuse during which he learned many eldritch secrets of brewcraft. During that time, he came to understand what he'd taken for granted as well as having his eyes forced open to the wonder and horror in the world. Finally, the memory of his family was strong enough to lead him home after several unsuccessful escapes led to horrific punishments he can barely remember.

Changeling Life

When Barry returned, he spent a year concentrating on his family. His fetch sat at his old place at the bar, chumming with his friends, so Barry ignored him. He carefully approached his grown daughters and got a chance to apologize and meet their families because his fetch had fallen completely out of touch. His ex-wife had remarried, so he left her alone as much as it pained him, with the exception of a phone call. Then he turned his back on his old life and dedicated himself to creating a new one. His ingratiating manner and newfound enthusiasm for life was contagious and he became a fixture in the Spring Court. When Old Lady Willow, the former ruler, died of old age, the successor was clear. Though he has come a long way, he still occasionally slips into old habits, spending too much time socializing at the bar and not enough attending to court affairs. However, his dedication is unwavering.
