Independent for decades, Panama has recently realigned itself with the United States out of fear. Before the new alliance was signed in 2091, Panama was under fierce pressure from the nanosocialist regime in nearby Columbia. Since then, American troops and military aid have flooded into Panama to prop up the local government and protect the still-important Canal.
