Early in the century, long-standing resentment<br /> of the central government led to the formation of a peaceful<br /> separatist movement. Unfortunately, Zulia was the site<br /> of much of the country’s oil wealth, and the Caracas government<br /> was determined to retain control. Independence<br /> did not come until 2073, by which time Venezuela’s economy<br /> had long since been forced to give up dependence on<br /> petroleum exports.<br /> <br /> Today Zulia has a healthy [[Fourth Wave]] economy with<br /> a diverse range of local industries.
